The estate is situated close to the Russian border, in the middle of the northern Finnish wilderness. The origins of the estate can be tracked back to 1686, when the Finnish ancestors of the Pohjola family arrived at this beautiful spot next to Lake Vuotunki having skied cross country from the Sotkamo region, over 200 km to the South . The current house, Pohjolan Pirtti, dates from 1891 and is constructed from old hand-crafted timber. The house sits on top of a slope with a traditional Finnish countryside vista, over the beautiful lake Vuotunkijärvi. The main building and all other surrounding buildings have been renovated and partly rebuilt in 2007.
Warm welcome drinks will be served outside. Then it is time to check out who is who when it comes to tobogganing! Tobogganing competition, which is a lot of fun. First everybody will get couple of practice rounds and then it is time to start to compete. Two persons will go downhill at the same time and the fastest will get to second round. Then during the next rounds there will be the same idea until there is only two persons left. The fastest of these two will be the champion of the tobogganing!
After the fun competition warm sauna is waiting. There are three different saunas for you to to enjoy! All ready to give you warmth and help you relax after a fun and adventurous day in Ruka-Kuusamo. A traditional Finnish wood heated timber sauna is situated on the terrace. It can seat 10 people. Also a wood burning hot tub is ready for you to have a refreshing dip under the stars. If you are lucky, northern lights may also dance in the night sky. Inside the main sauna building, there are two electric saunas, one for 4 people and a bigger sauna for 10 people.
