Snowshoeing Excursions

On this snowshoeing excursion we hike a 4,3 km trail in Riisitunturi National Park. First we get equipped for the hike at the safari office and then drive to Tolva. The park has some of the finest sloping bogs anywhere in Europe. In winter the spruce trees that cover many of Riisitunturi's hillsides are clad with a thick coating of condensed frost, creating a photogenic white forest. The route takes you through the snow covered forests to the top of Riisitunturi Fell, where you will have magnificent 360 degree views to Lapland’s wilderness with lakes and fells. After reaching the top we hike to a wilderness hut and enjoy sandwiches and hot juice with cookies. After the break we walk the rest of the trail back to the car. The hike requires good basic condition.

After getting equipped for the hike we move by car to the starting point for the day’s trail. This route takes us to the top of Pyhävaara fell on a demanding terrain. The views are worth the climb! Snacks are enjoyed along the way.

This short snowshoeing trip is suitable for families with small children. After getting equipped at the safari office we drive by car to Juuma to Oulanka National Park, which is known for its impressive landscapes and waterfalls. We go exploring the national park by snowshoes and guide shares stories of the characteristics of the area’s flora and fauna. On the way you will see the beautiful Myllykoski rapids with a hanging bridge above it. With good luck we will see the White Dipper diving into the open water in search for food or Siberian Jays flying in the trees. Hot chocolate with sweet pastries are offered by an old mill. Altogether walking distance is 2 km on an easy terrain.

After getting equipped for the hike we move by car to the starting point for the day’s trail. The 2 to 4km trail goes along on an easy terrain, but the snow conditions affect the level of difficulty. Along the way we make fire and fry sausages and enjoy hot drinks.
